Broken

Webster's defines Broken as: violated by transgression; violently separated into parts(shattered); cut off.  It sounds negative, bad even but the reality is being broken draws us closer to a Holy God.  Psalm 34:18 says, The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.  It broke my heart to have my daughter move to her dad's house after raising her for sixteen years.  It hurt; I still feel the pain but God has drawn me so much closer to Him.  I've experienced His love and grace in ways that I could never imagine through this experience.  He truly meets you right where you are.   He met me in one of the deepest places of despair that I have been in and set my feet on level ground.  Psalm 40:2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.  I love Psalm 51.  In Psalm 51:17 it says, "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise."
As God has given me this time of drawing near to Him He has called me to share with others what He has done.  I am called to preach the good news, comfort others and bind up the broken hearted.  Isaiah 61:1-3 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.

Our rebellious spirit needs to be broken so that we can be cleaned.  We need to have the sin of pride, resentment, unforgiveness, envy, jealousy, etc. removed from our heart.  In Ezekiel 36:25-26 it sasy I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

Is there something that God needs to break in you?  I pray you will allow Him to break you, to build you back up into the man or woman of God that He designed for you to be.
